FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT ARE THE GROUP SIZE'S?
We intend each tour to have from 6 to 10 Wine Scene Investigators. Small enough to feel like you are exploring independently but big enough to create a social vibe.
HOW DO WE GET ABOUT AND IS THERE A LOT OF TRAVELLING AROUND?
You will be transported at all times in our Wine Scene Investigations minibus. Comfort was at the top of our agenda when choosing our transport so it has air conditioning and comfortable seats. The ride will be like the wines - smooth!
The furthest we travel is on the last day of the 4-night tour from Gornja Radgona to the airport which has a journey time of around 2 hours. Other days are up to an hour at most but we find that the travelling time allows our guest either to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, discuss their latest tasting experiences with fellow investigators or catch 40 winks.
I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SOME OF THE DESTINATIONS OR WINES - WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
We've handpicked our locations not only because, quite simply, they're stunning, but also because they're completely off most mainstream tracks. And whilst English is widely spoken, there may be times when your rusty German could come in useful! We only visit wineries of distinction; in fact many of them have won Decanter Wine Awards and whether it's an old favourite like Sauvignon Blanc or a soon to be new favourite such as Graševina, the quality of the wines really do speak for themselves.
CAN I BUY ANY OF THE WINES I TASTE TO SHOW OFF TO (SHARE WITH!) MY FRIENDS?
Of course! At the end of the trip you will have the opportunity to order any wines you've enjoyed. Wine Scene Investigations will then have the wines delivered to you.
WHAT CURRENCY SHOULD I TAKE?
Euros for Slovenia and Austria. Croatian Kuna for Croatia. We do have some free time in Croatia so you may find you want to bring some Kuna with you although credit cards are widely accepted and dependent on your bank you can use ATMs in Croatia.
WHAT IS THE ACCOMMODATION LIKE?
We have sourced great quality and comfortable accommodation. The hotels have been awarded 4 stars, have superb facilities and excellent reviews, the guesthouses are by friendly often family run and more traditional. We've chosen a variety of hotels - one in the hub of the city of Maribor, one on the quiet wine road in Styria merged in with the surrounding vineyards, one on the edge of a park in the town of Varazdin, Croatia and finally a luxurious Spa Resort.
I HAVE SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS, CAN I BE ACCOMMODATED?
We can gladly cater for any special diets. Just let us know at the time of booking.
CAN I ACCESS HEALTHCARE WHILST AWAY?
Your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) will enable you to access state-provided healthcare at a reduced cost, or sometimes for free. It will cover you for treatment that is needed to allow you to continue your stay until your planned return. Health workers have an excellent command of English. Your Wine Scene Investigations Tour Manager will be at hand to aid with any issues should they arise.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Our tours are informal affairs and some of the areas we visit are quite rural. So, casual in the days and smart casual in the evenings. Even in the middle of Summer the evenings can be slightly chilly so allow for that.
PAYING IN EUROS?
As we are a Slovene registered company payment is required in Euros. You will find that your bank will offer an international payment facility. There are also finance companies that specialise in such transactions. We have used Halo Financial in the past.
